What I've been doing for the past couple of days.I've been practicing using nib pen and ink like crazy. After realizing that felt pens, even tho convenient, they did not really show the thickness of the line naturally, (and quite frankly, I just got sick of them) I decided to try out nib pens, since they are commonly used in the comic industry.  The difference was quite visible to me.

DEFY 2013

DEFY remote control was a collection designed for the concept course in 2013.
My collection got inspired by punk movement, and since their ideology is somewhat ecological I tried to incorporate it in my work by using recycled/post-consumer waste jeans and leather as well as some viscose and a little bit of cotton jersey. We were asked to make one of the outfits for our annual fashion show, but I figured that I would produce a couple of other looks too, for a photoshoot.

What I'm always trying to say

Bad Friday

 

I told myself I wasn’t gonna post about this until done but I can’t hold it.
I’ve got a really exciting project going on and I've got the first chapter of it almost ready.

I've been working on my graphic novel for the past couple of weeks. Or rather, the idea for the project has haunted me for a couple of years now, and now I think my body is ready to make it happen. So that what's been going on. Drawing the stories out. And I'm super psyched! I've also got to practise using quills and inks, that's been super exciting for me, a fairly new technique to learn.

Kontti

I've been looking trough my old work that I found in  my pile of sketches and stuff and came across some of very early projects of mine. This was my first year assignment, one of our first design projects with a photoshoot. The year was 2010 and the objective was to make an outfit in collaboration with Kontti, which is a charity shop uphold by the red cross.
Our job was to design an outfit that's made out of secondhand clothing. We could use whatever materials we could find in the secondhand shop.

WE had a photoshoot collaboration course with some of the photography students from our school. The idea was to shoot graduation project editorial. Each graduating student got paired up with a photography student and under Lauri Erikssons direction we had one day to figure out our editorial concept and next week it was already shooting time.

I think that the photoshoot went well and I owe a huge thank you to Jirina and our models for their hard work.

Our fashion show is just around the corner

 Our school is having our annual fashion show next week and this year it was our class that planned it. Our main theme for the show was to play with the idea of nature vs artificial, children vs adults and minimalism vs maximalism, ordinary vs extraordinary. The name KOE can be translated from Finnish as an experience, a spectacle. The show will include final collections of the graduating students as well as creations from other fashion students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year.

UNI the anthology

Each year I and a couple of my friends organize a zine in which new and young talented artists get an opportunity to show off their work. The continuous theme of the zine is "dreams", which is also a direct translation from Finnish word "Uni". Every year we choose a new dream-themed subtitle for artists to work with. The anthology consists of illustrations and comics mainly made by Finnish artists, but recently others too have been participating in the project and it's great!
Third book is coming out this summer including stories and illustrations revolving around "phantasmagoria".
