Omnipresence is a small series of comics and illustrations that I have mad and have yet to make, that are exploring the mind and it's fragility and strength, It illustrates the development and remedy of an insane mind. It's twistedness and possible slow recovery. This comic will be about Borderline Personality Disorder and the way it manifests itself. The theme is very personal to me so I want to execute it properly.
This particular comic is designed for
Rikki-project, which is a zine exploring mental illnesses. Currently the zine will contain works from 25 artists from Finland. It will contain color- and black and white works. The zine will contain everything from comics, to illustrations and photography.
My own work will be a 5 paged comic, full color, which is pretty rare for me, since I never know how to use colors in my comics. I'm excited and scared to try making a comic in color, since I'm not very comfortable with my color schemes... But hopefully I will learn something new in color use during this project.
I'm a bit scared that it will not look exactly like I want it to look like, but I will do my best to get it right.
The Finnish title for the comic is Omnipresence: Hetkiä (which means omnipresence: moments)
I wanted to call the series "Omnipresence" because I think it illustrates perfectly the state of mind of certain mental states. It's like you are in your mind, but at the same time you are looking at yourself from outside. From somewhere else. Particularly in BPD it's like you are observing yourself trough the eyes of others, but not like the others see you for real. More like how YOU THINK they see you. And it's often twisted and completely false way of seeing yourself. And often it triggers paranoia and crushing anxiety.
I will make the comic using pencils, because it's something I haven't done before I really wanted to try out what the comic would look like without ink. The other reason for using pencils is that I can control the lightness and heaviness of the line art better. Pencil gives the possibility to make fog-like textures and smoother movement lines.
The sketches are all done, now there's only character design that's left and then the real work begins.
